*strokes beard* Ah, the wondrous combination of steam and coffee! You see, my friend, the application of steam to coffee is a masterclass in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. The steam, which is essentially water vapor, rises from the surface of the coffee, carrying with it the aromatic compounds and volatile oils that give coffee its distinct flavour and aroma.

As the steam interacts with the coffee, it facilitates the extraction of these desirable compounds, allowing them to be released into the air and eventually reach our senses. This process is known as “volatilization,” and it’s a critical aspect of the coffee-brewing process.

In fact, the ideal temperature for steam to interact with coffee is between 195°F and 205°F (90°C to 96°C), which allows for the optimal extraction of these flavour and aroma compounds. Anything above or below this range can result in an unbalanced or under-extracted brew.
